The multi events came down to the wire at the Drake Relays. Travis Goepfert finished second in the 15-hundred meter run but he finished ahead of Iowa State’s Neil Hines to win a close battle in the decathalon. Hines says it was an amazing battle and he says it came down to the 15-hundred and always does.
Goepfert led by just two points heading into the final event. Goepfert says the 15-hundred has always been his best event,
Danielle McEnany overtook Iowa State’s Erica Lynn in the final event, the 800 meters to win the heptathalon. McEnany finished strong after struggling during the opening day. McEnany says you have to stay on a even keel and not roller coaster your emotions. She says that’s the hardest thing to do in multiple events.
McEnany won the heptathalon at the Penn Relays last year and this is her first title at Drake. McEnany says it’s kind of overwhelming after having memories of just coming up short at Drake.
