Alburnette bond issue fails by slim margin

May 3, 2006 By admin

A two-point-seven million dollar bond issue in the Alburnette School District failed by the narrowest of margins. The bond issue received 455 “yes” votes and 311 “no” votes in a special election Tuesday. The issue needed 60-percent voter approval to pass and received 59-point-four percent. Voter turnout in Alburnette was just over 32-percent.

The money was earmarked for an addition to the high school that would have added seven classrooms, and the installation of an elevator to make the second floor handicapped accessible. Officials say a recount of the election is probable.
