First District Congressional candidate Bruce Braley says it’s time for oil companies to pay their fair share of taxes. Braley, a Democrat from Waterloo, says the oil conglomerates have enjoyed Republican tax breaks and incentives for years. He says rising gas prices can be controlled by using funds generated by those taxes to further renewable energy development.
Braley says the solution is to transform the nation’s energy dependence, shifting it from nations in the Middle East to states in the Midwest. He wants to see increased emphasis on the development of renewable fuel sources that can be marketed to and from Iowa for economic development. He says moving away from increased dependence on fossil fuels and toward a renewable fuel future will be good for consumers in Iowa and nationwide.
Braley says he supports requiring all gasoline sold in the U.S. to contain ethanol, expanding the availability of bio-diesel fuels and incentives that help gas stations become E-85 capable. He says we need a comprehensive study to determine our renewable energy goals.
