Time capsule will preserve the year at Kinnick Stadium

July 6, 2006 By admin

The year that renovations were finished on Kinnick Stadium will be preserved when a time capsule is sunk in the new South plaza area of Kinnick Stadium later today.

Associate athletic director Rick Klatt says the time capsule will rest in the base of the statue of Nile Kinnick. The statue of Kinnick will be put in place on the weekend of the first home game.

Klatt says a variety of items will be placed in the capsule, including a football helmet and jersey, a cellphone, an I-pod, newspapers and magazines and other things specific to the University of Iowa.

Klatt says the time capsule will be opened in 75-years as he says the renovation started after the 75th football season at Iowa. The time capsule will also feature writings from the entire student body at an Iowa City elementary school on what their view of the world today is.
