Newton raceway to hold rock concert

July 10, 2006 By admin

Southern rock has joined racing on the schedule for the first season at the Iowa Speedway in Newton. Set for completion in August the speedway will host Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Charlie Daniels Band and 38 Special as part of Fall Rockfest 2006 on October first.

General manager Todd Melfi says it’s very easy to convert the racetrack into a concert venue. Melfi says it’s a one of a kind venue that he says has state of the art amenities.

Melfi says they seat 25-thousand for racing and they should be able to seat 15 to 20-thousand for a concert. Melfi says there will be more concerts in the future, maybe two or so a year. He says they’ll also do pre-race concerts to add value to the races.

Tickets will range from 30 to 60 dollars and will go on sale beginning Saturday. The first race at the Iowa Speedway is scheduled for September.
