Northeast Iowa man killed in hit-and-run

July 10, 2006 By admin

Authorities say a northeast Iowa man was killed in a hit-and-run early Sunday. The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help in the investigation of the death of a Hopkinton man whose body was found along a county road Sunday morning. 21-year-old Matthew Carter was apparently struck by a vehicle as he walked along Jones-Delaware Road early Sunday southwest of Hopkinton.

Deputies responding to a report of someone lying in the road about 6:25 a.m. found Carter’s body just under a mile east of the 255th Avenue intersection. Investigators are seeking anyone who drove Jones-Delaware Road east of 255th Avenue, or knows someone who may have driven that route, during Sunday’s early-morning hours. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s offices in Jones County (319) 462-4371, Delaware County (563) 927-3135, or the State Patrol (319) 283-5521.
