Class 1A takes stage in baseball tournament action

July 11, 2006 By admin

High School baseball district tournament action continues tonight across the state with the quarterfinal round in class 1A. Third ranked Sentral of Fenton opens a bid for a second straight appearance in the state tournament with a matchup against Twin River Valley. The Spartans used outstanding pitching to post a 36-3 regular season mark.

Sentral coach Mike Elsbecker says they’re fortunate to have four kids that they’re comfortable with and that will allow them to compete. Elsbecker says it is a new season when the district tournament begins. He says in the regular season you have to line your pitchers up for the whole week, but now it’s all about one game. Elsbecker says that allows the coaches and the team to focus on one opponent.

Elsbecker says they expect a tough matchup with Twin River Valley. He says it’s a team they see almost every year in the tournament, and he says they’re always solid.
