Superman to be cast in butter at Iowa State Fair

July 12, 2006 By admin

The always-popular butter cow will be joined by two yellow-sculpted men at this year’s edition of the Iowa State Fair. For 45 years, “Duffy” Lyon has been creating cows out of butter at the fair’s Dairy Barn alongside such figures as Elvis, John Wayne, Tiger Woods and even Jesus and the complete Last Supper.

This year, Lyon’s understudy, 29-year-old Sarah Pratt will carve the creamy tributes. One will be a life-sized likeness of Bill Riley who’s marking his 60th year as emcee of the fair’s variety show. The other will be Norwalk native Brandon Routh, the actor starring in the title role of the current box office hit “Superman Returns.”

Routh will be featured, with his cape fluttering, in a piece Pratt plans to call the Man of Butter.
