Train derails in Cedar Falls

July 14, 2006 By admin

Work is underway to clean up a train derailment near downtown Cedar Falls. Police says nine cars of an eastbound Canadian National train jumped the tracks shortly after seven A.M. today. The tracks run along the Cedar River adjacent to the Broom Factory, a popular restaurant in Cedar Falls.

Police say several cars are damaged, including a coal car which dumped part of its load against the back of the restaurant. Railroad officials have been called to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident. No injuries were reported.
