Scott County authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide involving a divorced couple in rural north Davenport, near the town of Park View. The bodies were found Monday night at the home of 46-year-old Nancy Allen. She was dead, as was her ex-husband, 41-year-old Randy Allen.

Sheriff’s Lieutenant Paul Van Steenhuyse was asked how they died. Van Steenhuyse says “We don’t have a definitive cause of death — many death investigations ’til the outcome of the autopsy.” The autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday).

Lieutenant Van Steenhuyse says much of the investigation will hinge on what they learn. The cause of death will often “drive the investigation,” he says, indicating whether they died a natural death or not. The body of Nancy Allen was found by a relative about 9:30 Monday night at the rural Scott County home where she lived, and the second body at the scene was that of her ex-husband, Randy Allen. He’d been convicted of domestic assault and the woman had been charged with filing a false police report and assault on a peace officer.
