Brian Ferentz is preparing to suit up for the Atlanta Falcons. The former Iowa offensive lineman signed a free agent contract with the Falcons back in May and reports to pre-season workouts next week.

Ferentz has already been through a few workouts earlier this summer and says he has a better understanding about the pressure the professionals face each day. He says it’s a business and you have to understand if you have a bad day, you might not be back.

Ferentz says he is starting to make the adjustment to the pro game. He says that’s been the hardest part, learning a new offense, being in a new building and adjusting to all of that.

Whether or not he ends up making the team Ferentz is grateful for the chance to prove himself. He says he’s excited and it’s every kids dream to be in the N-F-L.

Ferentz played both center and guard for the Hawkeyes and says that should help his chances. He says his best shot at making the team is to play both positions. Ferentz says making the active roster is a long shot, but he hopes to make the practice squad and get a year to develop as a center and guard.

Having a father who was an N-F-L assistant won’t help him make the squad but he does know what to expect more than most rookies do. But Ferentz says making the team comes down to performance. The Falcons first exhibition game is August 11th against New England.
