Sheriff’s officials in Audubon County have filed charges against an Audubon woman who has admitted disposing of a stillborn baby’s body in a ditch last winter.
Authorities say 23-year old Kristen Ashley Stoberl has been charged with failure to file a fetal death certificate, and failure to secure a burial permit. An investigation into the incident had been underway since November 8th, when trappers ran across the remains in an isolated area four miles southeast of Kimballton, in southwestern Audubon County.
An anonymous tip alerted the sheriff’s office that Stoberl might be the mother of the child, and she later confessed to officials that she took the body to the remote location after the baby was stillborn at her parent’s home in rural Audubon.
D-N-A evidence confirmed she was the mother of the infant. The father was identified as Cory Lynn LeClere. Stoberl appeared in magistrate court this morning on the charges, and was assessed a fine.
