A northwest Iowa sheriff is planning a meeting to address what he calls misperceptions in the Latino community. Sioux County Sheriff Dan Altena says there have been complaints that Mexican-Americans are been ticketed more often than other residents of the county. Altena denies that.

The sheriff hopes the Wednesday night meeting in Hull will answer some of the questions about how his office operates. Altena says Latinos do have more difficulty in getting a driver’s license and insurance, and that means when they’re stopped for traffic violations, tickets are written.
