It may be the middle of a hot summer, but one community in western Iowa’s Cass County is getting ready for winter.

Linda Firebaugh is helping organize an event that’s designed to invoke thoughts of a cooler climate. Firebaugh says it’s a Christmas in July Wine Fest with all of the proceeds going to Christmas decorations for the town of Anita. The event will be held tonight (Saturday) at the Anita Community Center.

It begins with a wine tasting at six p.m. Three vintners from Atlantic, Carson and Elk Horn will have samples of their products. In addition to the wine sampling, there will be discussion about which food goes best with the various wines, all with Christmas music in the background.

Firebaugh says another event is called “Light up a Pole.” They’ve purchased lighted garland to put around all of the street lamps with red bows, making things look very festive.
