Western Iowa deputy charged with theft

July 23, 2006 By admin

The Fremont County Sheriff in southwest Iowa has arrested one of his own deputies for allegedly taking items belonging to the Hamburg Fire Department and selling them on-line.

Fremont County Sheriff Steve MacDonald says 32-year-old Bob L. Davis of Hamburg was charged Friday with Theft in the Second Degree after it was discovered several items — including helmets, masks, gloves, badges and more — were missing from the fire department in Hamburg. The theft allegedly occurred on or about June 30th.

Davis was also fired Friday after some of the missing items turned up at the home of his ex-wife. Sheriff MacDonald says his secretary noticed Davis had an E-Bay document that listed many of the stolen items, most of which had already been sold. It‘s not known how much Davis allegedly received for those items. An investigation into the incident is underway, and additional charges may be filed.
