Court rules in favor of Waterloo man over nude bar

August 3, 2006 By admin

A Waterloo businessman has won the battle to open a controversial nude juice bar in the city. A year ago, Waterloo city officials rejected Earl Baugh’s request for a special permit to open a nude dancing establishment. The board of adjustment denied the permit last July, citing objections from surrounding property owners and a potential negative effect in the area.

Baugh sued, claiming the juice bar met all the city’s strict zoning requirements for such an establishment. He took city officials to court, arguing they acted illegally when the board denied the special permit.

Yesterday, a district court judge sided with Baugh and ordered the issuance of the permit. Now, the Waterloo planning, programming, and zoning commission must decide whether to appeal the ruling.
