Hobo Convention meets in Britt this weekend

August 12, 2006 By admin

The annual Hobo Convention is underway in Britt in north-central Iowa. Hobo Museum curator Linda Hughes says this year’s convention is also serving as a fundraiser
Hughes says they’re raising funds to build a new Hobo Museum and says they’re already one fifth of the way to their goal. Hughes says that the hobos are coming to the Hancock County town from across the United States, and beyond.

Hobos are expected to come from California, Texas, Ohio, Wisconsin, and other states. Hughes notes that there are some international guests in Britt for the convention as well.

Hughes says that while there is plenty going on this weekend, she has a few must-do events for anyone that is planning to attend the Hobo Convention. She says you should go to the hobo jungle and listen to the music, go to the memorial service, and the hobo museum to learn how the hobos helped build the country. Britt has been the gathering site for hobos from across the country since 1901.
