D-N-R says feedlot caused fishkill near Rockwell City

August 22, 2006 By admin

A fishkill’s been traced to a feedlot near Rockwell City. The Department of Natural Resources counted five-thousand fish dead along a four-mile stretch of a stream that includes Rock Creek Lake and one of its tributaries. It was after a rainfall that manure ran from a farm into the waterway, killing minnows, chubs and other mostly small fish.

The D-N-R’s Kevin Baskins says the hog lot to blame in this case belonged to Loren Wuebker of Rockwell City, and says after the investigation’s complete and the loss is totaled up, some of the cost may be billed to the farmer.
