Washington’s sending some funding to ease the pain of a business shutdown near Sioux City. About 120 workers were laid off due to the closing of Verizon’s M-C-I Call Center in Sergeant Bluff. U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine Chao announced this week they’ll get some help re-training for new jobs, with a grant coming to Iowa Workforce Development.

The actual training and career counseling will be done at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. The grant, to be released in stages, should total 768-thousand-761 dollars.
