It is hard to believe that a program with the history of Central College could win a share of a league crown and be considered a surprise. But that’s exactly what the 2005 season was considered for the Dutch who shared the Iowa Conference title with Coe and earned a 17th trip to the division three national playoffs.

Central coach Jeff McMartin says with all the people they graduated, people outside the school probably didn’t expect as much. But McMartin says on campus they always feel they have a tradition to uphold.

There are a number of veterans back on both sides of the ball in including the linebackers and defensive backs, running back and quarterback. The Dutch won a number of close games in 2005 and did so by dominating special teams play. He says they work hard on special teams and put a lot of emphasis on them. Central opens the season September second at St. Thomas of Minnesota.
