The Grinnell College football team looks to rebound from a disappointing 2005 season in which they finished just 1-9 but coach Greg Wallace says it won’t be easy for a Pioneer team that will rely on a number of young players. Wallace says 30 of the 45 guys are first or second year players, though they do have a couple of veterans who can lead the team.

Wallace enters his 19th season as the head coach and Grinnell and says last year’s team could not overcome some injuries to key players. He says you have to fight through some of those things and he says that takes good players out of the action and you have to have the younger guys step up.

One of the three starters back on offense is All-Midwest Conference quarterback Sean Pflazer. He says Pflazer is a quality quarterback and to be successful they have to spread the offense out.

The Pioneers opens the season this Saturday at home against Kenyon College of Ohio. Grinnell begins Midwest Conference play a week from Saturday.
