Colo girl reaches plea agreement in attempted murder case

August 29, 2006 By admin

Attempted murder charges against a young central Iowa woman who gunned down a man she claims molested her have been dropped in a plea agreement. Eighteen-year-old Rachel Huggins of Colo, the daughter of Colfax Police Chief Jon Huggins, pleaded guilty Monday to lesser charges.

Huggins was accused in the shotgun shooting of 47-year-old Peter Sciarrotta at his Lambs Grove home on New Year’s Day. Huggins had accused Sciarrotta of molesting her in 2004, but no charges were filed.

Huggins pleaded guilty to willful injury resulting in bodily injury and going armed with intent. She was sentenced to ten years in prison. In the initial investigation, police searched Sciarrotta’s home and seized computers.
