Monday was a change from Iowa’s summer weather but a headache for some residents in southern counties. There have been a few weeks of good rain in the counties along the Missouri border, so when the latest front parked along that southern tier for the weekend the ground was not in condition to soak up an inch or two. They got five or six inches or more by some accounts.

By Monday morning flood warnings were issued for Ringgold and Taylor counties. Former Ringgold County emergency manager Merle Walter, who now works for county 9-1-1, says some roads were under water though none had washed out when he took a look Monday afternoon.

He says the creeks were bank full and backed up into the crops and he crossed several bridges that were holding up well. The forecast for the area calls for one more day of showers before they end. One report indicates as much as nine inches of rain fell in Taylor County.
