Car involved in sex crime turned over to C-F police

August 30, 2006 By admin

The Cedar Falls Police Department now owns a yellow 2006 Dodge Charger, seized from a man who allegedly used it while trying to commit a sex crime. The vehicle was confiscated from Steven Kenney of Sioux City, who last month pleaded guilty to an enticement charge for using the Internet to solicit a minor for sex.

Kenney was arrested in March after he drove the car from Sioux City to Cedar Falls to meet the minor, who was actually an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old girl. Because the vehicle was being used to commit a crime, state law allows authorities to seize it.

Earlier this month, a court order forfeited the car to Cedar Falls police. Department officials plan to sell the car and use the funds to purchase equipment.
