Iowa State returns to Saturday game

September 5, 2006 By admin

Iowa State returns to its traditional Saturday game day this week, after opening the season last Thursday with a triple-overtime 45-43 win over Toledo. Cyclone Coach Dan McCarney says getting a win to open the season was important. McCarney says winning a game like that goes back to the trust and belief the players have, and he says winning is hard to do and they’re glad to be 1-0.

I-S-U faces U-N-L-V this weekend in Ames. McCarney says U-N-L-V’s much improved this season and had one of the largest margins of victory, winning by 44 points, in their first game. McCarney says they have a lot of transfer players that have helped them improve. The biggest game in college football this week involves Texas against Ohio State. McCarney says he’ll follow his Big 12 loyalties and root for the Longhorns.

McCarney says it’ll be a great game that brings national exposure to a team in the same conference and while his team will be playing at the same time, McCarney says his loyalties will be with Texas. I-S-U meets U-N-L-V at 6 p.m. at Jack Trice Stadium.
