Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Kyle Schlicher should return to the field on Saturday when the Hawkeyes visit Syracuse. The senior kicker missed the Hawks season opening victory over Montana with a muscle strain. Ferentz says Schlicher kicked a little on Sunday and they expect him to kick all week in practice.Iowa opened with a 41-7 win over Montana and now prepares for a new challenge as it will be the first time on the road and playing in a dome. Ferentz says Syracuse is a much better team than the one that posted a 1-10 mark in 2005. He says his team has to guard against the idea that Syracruse won just one game last year and learn how to get ready during the course of the week. Two other Hawkeyes that are expected to return to action are defensive end Kenny Iwebema and receiver Herb Grigsby. Both players were suspended for the opener for violating team rules. Ferentz says they’re done with all forms of discipline and he says he expects both to play a lot and possible start, depending on how they practice.Ferentz says while noise is always a factor when playing in a dome the heat will be more of a factor this week. The Carrier Dome is not air conditioned, and Ferentz says that will be a factor for both teams and both teams will have to drink plenty of water. Running back Albert Young was busy against Montana and Ferentz says that won’t change all season. Ferentz says it’s similar to when they had Fred Russel, as he says when you have a good player, you try to get him involved as much as possible.
