Construction began Tuesday afternoon on what promises to be Iowa’s biggest-ever biodiesel factory. Ground has been broken for a biodiesel plant near Algona that will produce 60-million gallons a year upon completion.
Ken Clark, president of the East Fork Biodiesel board of directors, says the plant would be the largest producing facility of its kind in the state and perhaps the nation. He says construction will be on the fast track with completion in 14 months time. Thirty-six jobs will be created that average 17-dollars an hour.
Fifteen golden shovels were used to turn the Iowa soil for the occasion. Investors and supporters took home sand buckets and shovels symbolizing the moment. Each one had a plastic bag filled with Iowa soil.
