Drake and Upper Iowa meet in football Saturday

September 7, 2006 By admin

Drake and Upper Iowa collide in Des Moines on Saturday night. Both teams opened last Thursday night. Drake lost to UNI 48-7 and coach Rob Ash knows a lot more about his team than he did going in. He says they found out that Dereck Rutherford will be a good quarterback and their defensive line will be adequate too. Ash says they need work on their kicking game.

Ash says the Bulldogs have another tough test against an Upper Iowa team that won its first game as a member of the Northern Sun Conference at Wayne State. He says Upper Iowa is on the rise and Ash says it’s nice to have a division two opponent in the state.

Ash says the Peacocks are much more balanced on offense this season. He says they don’t play with a tight end, but do play with three and four wide receivers, and some I-formation.

Upper Iowa coach Mike Knoll says last week’s victory was a big one for the program. Knoll says they validated a lot of things about their team, that they’re stronger and more athletic than last year.
