Drake wraps up three-game homestand this weekend

September 14, 2006 By admin

The Drake Bulldogs wrap up a three game homestand to open the season when they host Wisconsin-Platteville on Saturday night. The Bulldogs evened their record at 1-1 after a 40-7 win over Upper Iowa and coach Rob Ash says they will face a motivated opponent.

Ash says Wisconsin-Platteville makes this their big game on their schedule as they’re playing a one double A team. He says it’s a great rivalry, but there’s more incentive on the other side as they talk about playing up.

Ash says the Drake defense will have a difficult time slowing down Platteville’s high powered offense. He says they run a spread offense with a lot of wideouts and a shotgun. He says they also run a lot of screens too.

Drake’s running game has been as productive as expected. Through two games the Bulldogs have piled up more than 500 yards on the ground. Ash says they have an experienced line and runningback Scott Phaydavong is “electrifying.” He says the jury is still out on whether they can pass the ball.
Platteville opened two weeks ago with a victory over the University of Dubuque.
