Two southwest Iowa teens are in trouble after authorities discovered they carried the makings for pipe bombs. A Red Oak police officer saw suspicious activity occurring in an alley late Saturday night, and went to investigate. What he found, was an object that resembled a pipe bomb, and components for the manufacture of pipe bombs.

After cordoning-off a three-block area, an agent with the State Fire Marshal’s office rendered the device safe. Minutes later, another device determined to be an explosive, was discovered in a pickup registered to 17-year-old Brett Querry, of Red Oak.

After an investigation, Querry and 16-year-old Eric Vannausdale, of Red Oak, where charged with one count each of possession of an offensive weapon. The teens were referred to juvenile court services and released to the custody of their parents.
