The FBI has released the crime rates for many American cities, including just over 100 Iowa cities and towns. The FBI report indicates that in 2005, Davenport was the city in Iowa where the most violent crimes occured. Just over 1,300 violent crimes, including armed robberies, rapes and murders, were reported in Davenport in 2005.
Des Moines police reported just over 1,200 violent crimes last year in Iowa’s capitol city. Council Bluffs was at number three on the list, with 725 violent crimes. Cedar Rapids ranked fourth, Sioux City fifth and Waterloo sixth.
The FBI report analyzed crime statistics from 105 Iowa cities, and five cities reported no violent crimes occured within their city limits last year. Those five are Cresco, Dyersville, Jefferson, Mt. Vernon and Spencer. Crimes did occur in those cities last year, but none of the five had a murder, a rape or a robbery that involved the use of a weapon.
