Former University of Iowa basketball player Pierre Pierce is getting out of prison Sunday. The 23-year-old Pierce has spent just under one year at the Mount Pleasant prison after he pled guilty to burglary, assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, false imprisonment and criminal mischief in connection with a January 2005 incident at his girlfriend’s home in West Des Moines.
Iowa Department of Corrections spokesman Fred Scaletta says Pierce will be on four years probation. Scaletta says there are some general terms in the probation agreement Pierce must agree to before he leaves. Scaletta says he’ll have to agree to abide by all laws and other stipulations by his parole officer.
Scaletta says Pierce may have to get a job now that he’s getting out of prison. He says the standard and special conditions of parole generally include employment, but sometimes getting an education can substitute for full-time employment. Scaletta says details are still being worked out as to where Pierce will live. Scaletta says wherever that probation is, Pierce’s travel will be restricted to that area, unless Pierce gets permission from the probation officer.
Scaletta says all the details will be worked out when Pierce meets his probation officer. Scaletta says Pierce will meet with the probation officer a couple of days after being released on Sunday. Pierce was kicked off the Iowa basketball team after his arrest, which was his second run-in with the law as a Hawkeye. Pierce completed a sex offender treatment program while in prison and will have to register on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. Pierce was released early from his two-year sentence for good behavior.
