The Transportation Security Administration in Washington announced today (Monday) that Homeland Security’s re-adjusting travel rules that were toughened after a plot by London terrorists was allegedly uncovered this summer. Jay Brainard, Federal Security Director for the TSA in Iowa, says it will make life a little easier for air travelers.
They’re adjusting the ban on liquids, gels and other substances like that to let travelers carry travel-size toiletries, bottles of three ounces or less, sealed in a clear quart-sized Ziploc bag through airport security checkpoints.
And for those who mourned their bottled water or coffee, there’s a change that will be welcome depending on the layout of the airport you’re boarding at. He says travelers can now bring drinks onto the aircraft, if they’ve purchased them at an airport vendor after going through the security checkpoint.
“We take a very hard look at things that happen,” Brainard says, “and we also try and mitigate the risk as often as we can.” In addition to eight commercial-service airports in the state, hundreds of Iowans fly in and out of airports at Omaha and the Quad Cities.
