Iowa faces top-ranked team, I-S-U to host U-N-I

September 25, 2006 By admin

The Iowa Hawkeyes now get set for this weekend’s matchup at home against top ranked Ohio State. The Hawkeyes improved to 4-0 with a 24-7 win at Illinois. The Hawks scored 21 points in the third quarter but like the first few weeks of the season the offense sputtered for much of the game.

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says the running yards are coming tough at this time of year, and Ferentz says it’ll be tough this week as he says Ohio State always has a good defense. Ferentz says they have a huge task ahead, but says that’s the fun of college football, playing a top team in a great environment.

Ferentz who says a prime time game in Kinnick should provide for an electric atmosphere. Ferentz says the fans will be ready, he hopes his team is ready too. Ferentz says though, he expects his team to be ready to play.

The Iowa State Cyclones return to action this weekend at home against UNI. The Cyclones fell to 2-2 on the season with a 37-14 loss at Texas in their Big 12 opener. The Longhorns jumped out to a 16-0 lead less than five and half minutes into the game.

The Cyclones staged a rally as a pair of Bret Meyer touchdown passes brought the Cyclones to within 16-14 but, from there it was all Texas as the Longhorns finished the opening half with two more touchdowns then closed out the scoring with a Colt McCoy touchdown pass in the third quarter.

UNI is 2-1 on the season and the Panthers have not played since a 27-17 win over South Dakota State back on September 16th.
