Man charged with O-W-I after hitting, killing, biker

September 25, 2006 By admin

A bicycle rider was hit by a car and killed over the weekend in central Iowa by a driver authorities say was drunk. The collision happened about 5:15 AM Sunday on a county road near Dallas Center. The Dallas County Sheriff says the bicyclist was 45-year-old John Maxwell, of Dallas Center, and he was declared dead at the scene.

The driver of the car is identified as 22-year-old Matthew Merical, from the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale. The Sheriff says Merical was arrested and is facing a number of charges, including his second O-W-I offense.
