Iowa Conference contenders meet in Pella

September 28, 2006 By admin

A pair of teams with championship hopes in the Iowa Conference collide in Pella on Saturday when Central hosts Wartburg. Central is 3-0 and ranked 15th in division three. Central coach Jeff McMartin says it’s definitely a big test as he says they’ve seen Wartburg on film and they have a good team.

Wartburg is also 3-0 and ranked 22nd nationally. McMartin says it’s a big game, but they are going to enjoy themselves and have fun with the game.

McMartin talks about the keys to victory, saying they need to avoid mistakes and understand it will be a long game. He says no matter what happens early, there will be a lot of football to play.

After being part of this series the last four year’s as an assistant it is the first as a head coach for Wartburg’s Eric Koehler. He says both schools have a lot of respect for each other and it should be fun.

Koehler says the Knights gained some confidence in last week’s 28-17 win over Luther. He says it’s nice to be confidence and be 3-0, but he says your view of yourself can change if you don’t play well.

Koehler talks about what the Knights need to get a win. He says they can’t give up any big plays on defense, take care of the ball on offense, and win the special teams.
