Waterloo appeals nude dancing ruling to Supreme Court

September 28, 2006 By admin

The fight to keep a nude dancing establishment from opening in Waterloo is headed to the Iowa Supreme Court. The city of Waterloo is appealing a lower court ruling that favors the juice bar. Earl Baugh wants to open the establishment near the Waterloo Regional Airport, but he needs a special permit from the city.

Last month, the Waterloo Board of Adjustment denied Baugh’s request after neighboring businesses objected. Baugh then took the city to court, claiming the proposed bar — which would feature totally nude dancers — meets Waterloo’s zoning requirements. The lower court sided with Baugh and ordered the Board of Adjustment to issue the permit. Now, the Iowa Supreme Court is being asked to settle the issue.
