Friends become foes on the football field

September 29, 2006 By admin

A pair of good friends meet tonight when Boone visits Dallas Center-Grimes in a battle of unbeatens in class 3A district two. Scott Heitland spent five years at Boone, the final year as defensive coordinator for coach Mark Camenisch, before taking over at Dallas Center-Grimes in 2004.

Heitland says he’ll be coaching against guys who were his best friends for five years. He says it can be stressful at times, but says it’s fun. Heitland says it will have little to do with the game, as he says the kids aren’t wrapped up in it.

Camenisch says he and Heitland remain good friends and stay in touch a lot. He says they’re both from Algona and got along real well when they coached together. Camenisch says other than this game, he hopes they win all their games.
