Iowa looks to bounce back against Purdue

October 3, 2006 By admin

After falling to top ranked Ohio State the Iowa Hawkeyes are looking to bounce back with a good effort. They will be at home against Purdue. Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says if you let the loss linger, it will handicap them this week and he says the team isn’t good enough to let that happen.

The Hawkeyes are thin at safety. Marcus Paschal went out of the Ohio State game early with a hamstring injury. Ferentz says Devin Boylan’s hamstring injury is more serious than thought and he may be out for the season or through November. Ferentz says he also doesn’t expect Paschal to be back this week.

Redshirt freshman Marcus Wilson moves into the lineup. Ferentz says Wilson has done a nice job coming in and says the question is can he sustain it. A young Purdue defense has given up a lot of points so far this season but Ferentz says that does not mean the Hawks will go in expecting to pit up big numbers.

Ferentz nothing is easy for his football team. He says they need to worry about doing a better job with their execution. Ferentz says there is no reason the Hawkeyes should not rebound with a good effort. He says peaks and valleys are a part of sports and you have to find a way to do that. Ferentz says if you can’t handle that, then you’re going to encounter some “landmines” as a coach and a player.
