Former U-N-I coach returns as foe for homecoming

October 4, 2006 By admin

It is only fitting that Missouri State is the opponent for UNI’s homecoming game this weekend. The Bears are led by former U-N-I coach Terry Allen who directed the Panthers to seven Gateway Conference titles. U-N-I coach Mark Farley says Allen is a part of U-N-I’s past and Farley says they’ve always been proud of the past and that tradition. He says Allen has great links to the past as a player and a coach and will always get respect for that. Farley says Allen’s also part of the future, and laughed as he said “He’s on the dark side there.”

Farley says he learned a great deal from Allen while serving as a member of his coaching staff at U-N-I and Kansas. Farley says you can’t go out and think you can beat someone just because you’re better than them. Farley says you have to develop a good plan, and that’s what he learned from Allen.

Along with Allen a few Missouri State assistant coaches have U-N-I ties. Farley says he watched the tape and saw the Missouri State defense and says they do verbatim what U-N-I does. Farley says that should make the game interesting.
