Sioux City police shoot man at scene of fire

October 4, 2006 By admin

Sioux City Police shot and killed a man today in the middle of a fiery emergency call. Police Chief Joe Frisbie says about a quarter after one this afternoon, cops went along on a fire call to the Regency Mobile Home Court and once they’d arrived, a man jumped from the window of a burning home — with a knife in his hand.

The knife had blood on it, the chief says. Cops ordered him to drop the knife, he refused and was shot once. The man ran off and police went in pursuit, and then they say the man charged them once again with the bloodied knife. After they fired again, the man was dead.

Members of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are on the scene and will be investigating.
