A Mexico City man is back in northwest Iowa where he faces charges in the 1997 kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old Gregory “Sky” Erickson of Estherville. Clay County Sheriff’s officers returned with Juan Humberto Astillo-Alverez on Wednesday night. He’s charged with second-degree murder, second-degree kidnapping and conspiracy to commit a forcible felony.

Astillo-Alverez was held in Mexico for the last year before he was extradited. He’s the last of ten suspects believed to be involved in Erickson’s kidnapping and killing. Charges were filed in Clay County in 2004. Astillo-Alverez is being held in the county jail on one-million dollars bond. No court date is yet set.
