Drake to use two quarterbacks this weekend

October 12, 2006 By admin

Drake coach Rob Ash plans to use two quarterbacks this weekend when the Bulldogs visit Butler in Pioneer League action. Last week’s victory over Waldorf was Drake’s first game since losing starting quarterback Derek Retherford to a season ending elbow injury.

Ben Ostermann made his first start and Ash says he did an excellent job. Cole Ingle came off the bench and Ash says he played well too. Ash says Ostermann will start and they’ll sort things out as they go along.

After going winless in 2005 Butler is off to a good start under first-year coach Jeff Voris, They are 2-4, including a victory over PFL powerhouse Dayton. Ash says they beat Dayton and haven’t done that in 14 years and Ash says now they think they can beat anyone.

Ash says Butler has done well on crucial downs, playing excellent football on third down and in the red zone. Ash says his team will have to convert in critical situations. At 5-1 Drake is off to its second best start in school history.
