An Iowa man who’s been living in Illinois has a court date today (Tuesday) to be officially informed that he’s charged with murder in the death of his family.

Twenty-two-year-old Shawn Bentler is scheduled to make his initial appearance at 9:30 a.m. today at Van Buren County District Court in Keosaqua. He’ll face five counts of murder for allegedly shooting his parents and three teenage sisters to death in their home just outside of Bonaparte early Saturday morning.

Bentler waived extradition Monday from Illinois, where he’d been living and where he was arrested hours after prosecutors say he shot his family. He was initially held on unrelated drug charges. Dispatchers in Van Buren County say Bentler’s 14-year-old sister called 911 and then the dispatcher heard screaming and gunshots.
