Morningside can make playoffs with four wins

October 19, 2006 By admin

With four games remaining the Morningside football team controls its own destiny in terms of the post-season. Despite a loss to third ranked Sioux Falls last week the Mustangs are 4-2 and ranked 15th in the latest NAIA poll.

Morningside coach Steve Ryan says the top six teams make the playoffs, so if they win out, they will likely make the playoffs. Ryan says their success down the stretch will hinge on the running game on both sides of the ball. Ryan says the defense is shutting down the run very well. And he says on offense they’re running the football, so if the weather gets worse, that should be even more of a plus.

After losing a number of key performers off last year’s record setting offense the Mustangs are using a more balanced attack this season and Ryan says that unit is making progress. Ryan says the focus has been on getting better each day and he says they are seeing that better play on offense. Morningside hosts Concordia of Nebraska this weekend.
