A group known for its efforts to try and stem the flow of illegal immigrants on the U.S./Mexican border wants to organize a chapter in Sioux City. Craig Halverson of Council Bluffs is a spokesman for the “Minuteman Project” which plans to hold a meeting in Sioux City Saturday. Halverson explains the group’s goals.

Halverson says they’re trying to get politicians to enforce the immigration laws. Halverson says the group wants the government to use the U.S. Constitution to stem the flow of illegal immigrants in all states, not just those on the border.

Halverson says amendment 10 of the Constitution says if the federal government does not protect its citizens, then that right goes down to the state and local governments to do the job. Halverson says the group has a plan for helping cities.

Halverson says “I have an ordinance that makes it illegal for illegal aliens to live in the city or work in the city, and it’s all based on federal laws.” Halverson says he’ll talk about forming a Minuteman chapter in Sioux City during a meeting Saturday at the public library.
