Central looks to clinch share of title against Coe

November 2, 2006 By admin

There will be plenty on the line this weekend when Central visits Coe in Iowa Conference football action. With a victory, Central would clinch at least a share of a 27th Iowa Conference title and lock-up a spot in the division three national playoffs.

Central coach Jeff McMartin says each and every week is a battle in the conference and he says Coe is another good football team that has lost two games by a combined five points. Coe has won a share of three conference titles in the past four years. McMartin says Coe will come out with both guns blaring and be a real test.

Central has been opportunistic this season. They are a plus 17 in turnover margin. He says winning the turnover battle is being opportunistic and on the other side taking care of the ball.

Coe coach Eric Raeburn says his team will need to limit mistakes. Raeburn says Central is very good on both sides of the ball and forces you to make a lot of mistakes. Raeburn says one way to avoid turnovers is to stay out of third and long situations.

Had it not been for a pair of heart breaking defeats this could have been a battle of unbeatens but instead Coe needs a win just to stay in the hunt. Raeburn says all loses are tough, but the close ones make you a little frustrated and they see this as an opportunity to get back into the title hunt. Coe has won the last three games in the series.
