The creators of the television hit “American Idol” are looking for a single young farmer to star in a new reality TV program that’ll air next year. Kim Prince, a casting associate for the show that’ll be called “The Farmer Wants a Wife,” says they’ll be conducting in-person interviews this weekend in four states, including Iowa. “We are looking for the ultimate single guy that is a farmer or a rancher. A lotta’ times, people refer their friends and family,” Prince says. “He’s that guy who’s just the ultimate catch, perfect marriage material, with a heart of gold, who is a member of the farming community and who really loves what he does.” Prince says the show aims to match a spirited farmer, who doesn’t have much time to meet women, with a handful of available ladies from all walks of life who dream of living a traditional, small town lifestyle. She says they’re not looking for veteran actors — to the contrary. “He needs no acting experience at all,” she says. “We are not looking for the guy who wants to do the show to break out, become a star and move to L-A. We are looking for the diamond in the rough, who loves his job and wants to remain farming.” She says one of the challenges is that the ideal candidate for the reality show job may not consider himself a likely prospect. “We’re talking to grandparents, sisters, cousins and friends because a lot of times, guys will think ‘Oh gosh, that’s not going to be me,’ and that almost makes him the perfect guy because he is so humble he thinks ‘it couldn’t be me’ but that ties into his allure and makes him a great guy,” she says. The casting call is Sunday. November 5th in Des Moines. Casting calls will also be held in Nebraska, Missouri and Texas. For information, send email to [email protected] or call 877-255-8009.
