The U.S. Attorneys in Iowa say they’ll be taking part in a program called the “Voter Integrity Initiative” on election day. Matt Whitaker is the attorney for the Southern District. Whitaker says the initiative makes sure they enforce federal voting laws so everyone can cast their ballot and have it counted. Whitaker says he’s also appointed district election officers to handle any complaints from the public on election fraud or voting act rights violations.

Whitaker says the program was first established in 2002. He says the issues seemed to be more and more heightened each two years. Whitaker says Iowa has a pretty good record. Whitaker says we’ve been fortunate to not have a lot of problems, but he says we still need to remain vigilant. Whitaker says anyone who encounters problems on election day should call the U.S. Attorney’s office.
