A Union County provisional ballot belonging to a state lawmaker is being challenged. County Auditor Sandy Hysell explains what’s taking place. Hysell says the ballot belongs to State Senator Jeff Angelo. She says they have a special board that will go over the provisional ballots and the challenged ballot Thursday and determine if they count.

Lois Monday of Creston filed the challenge to Angelo’s ballot, claiming Angelo does not live at the address listed and uses a post office box for his address.

Angelo says he recently went through a divorce and his name was still on the title of the home and in the divorce process had not changed his address from that home.

Angelo says he learned of the potential challenge from his attorney and also found that a change of title on the home had been filed without his knowledge. Angelo says he will file a change of address.

Angelo says he now lives in an apartment and has a business in the same building and has the post office box because of his business.

Angelo says he needs the post office box for the large volume of mail he gets from his business and from constituents. Angelo says his apartment is his primary residence and Creston residents have seen him with his children at church and other events and would be “greatly skeptical of the claim that may Creston home is simply for the sake of appearance.” Angelo is a republican.
